Biography


 Jenda Derringer (born Brenda Jean Hall; July 16, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, producer, and real estate investor. She is known for her musical collaborations with her late husband, guitarist Rick Derringer, and for her solo album Hot and Cool. She is also credited under the name "Jenda" for the Asia Project.

 Career & Music 

 

  • Singer-Songwriter:  
    • Vocals on "Free Ride" from Rick Derringer's 2002 album Free Ride Smooth Jazz  
    • Wrote lyrics and melodies for "Hot & Cool" for Rick's Free Ride Smooth Jazz  
    • Solo album Hot and Cool — blues/jazz style, featuring tracks "Knighted by the Blues," "Since I Fell 4 U"  
  • Asia Project 2013: As Jenda with Rick as "Ricky Wu," recorded covers of Chinese hits "Mouse Loves Rice" and "Season of Waiting" after discovering they were among the largest-selling songs in history.
  • Producer: Co-produced Musicians for Disaster Relief 05' TV Special, 2005 - Benefit concert supporting The American Red Cross and The Florida Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund, featuring Michael Bolton, Rick Derringer, Dickey Betts, Loverboy, Robin Zander, Eddie Money and Band, Dee Snider & Twisted Sister, and Mark Farner.


Real Estate & Business 

 

  • Early investor: Used her college fund to buy first home via FL first-time homebuyer program instead of attending college immediately. 
  • Portfolio: Built income-producing properties that funded an in-house studio and other ventures.
  • Education: Attended college in her late 20s, fully funded by real estate success, she earned a BA degree in mass communications. Jenda has also completed training in film making, photography, videography as well as music production and development.
  • Founded MusiCrafts Productions, a commercial music studio that specialized in genres such as rock, gospel, pop, jazz, blues, alternative and instrumental jazz. The studio also produced many radio play jingles. Located In Bradenton, FL, the studio established itself as a major local presence during the 1980s, serving an impressive clientele that included the All Brothers Band, among many other notable recording artists. 
  • Know for musical collaborations with Rick Derringer, Mark Farner and many more. 


Personal Life

 

  • Performed and recorded vocals on hundreds of songs from the 1980s to present.
  • 1990s
    • Hosted children and adults from around the world in the home she built to nurture the world's needs, focusing mainly on those under age 18.
    • Trained and hosted national and international adult and children choirs.
  • 2000s
    • Judged adult and under 18 Florida singing and vocal and performance coached adults and children.  
    • Was commissioned as project manager for television series and music contests. 
  • Married: 2001 to Rick Derringer, until his death May 26, 2025 with 2 children  
  • How They Met: Both had Ohio/Indiana roots. She was 37, he was 50. She heard "Hang On Sloopy" at age 5 driving down Far Hills Avenue in Dayton, later prayed to marry him at 15. Met 22 years later when he came to her town. 
  • Rick’s quote: Prayed for a partner "a lot smarter than I am," then Jenda walked in weeks later. 
  • Residence: Florida; Gulf Coast first, then near Daytona Beach/Ormond Beach  
  • With Rick's Passing May 26, 2025: Surrounded by Jenda and caretaker/friend Tony Wilson
  • Legacy: Singer, producer, real estate investor, spiritual partner to Rick. She stood by him through his blues-rock to smooth jazz transition, co-wrote, performed, and managed business side.
